SQL Server BAK File Conversion

SQL Server BAK files extracted, cleaned, and ready to move.

InsurCore Data restores SQL Server backup files, maps the schema to your target format, cleans and validates the data, and delivers import-ready output — without requiring you to have a running SQL Server instance.

The Problem

Why this conversion is hard

SQL Server .BAK files require a live SQL Server instance to restore — most small businesses don't have the infrastructure to do this themselves.

Once restored, the raw schema rarely matches the target system's import format. Mapping hundreds of tables and fields takes specialized knowledge.

Legacy SQL Server databases often contain years of accumulated bad data — duplicates, orphaned records, null fields where values are required, and inconsistent formats.

Many vendors expect clean CSV or Excel import files, not a raw database dump. The conversion work falls on the client.

BAK files can be extremely large — 10GB+ is common for databases with attachments, notes, or years of transaction history.

Without a proper validation step, import errors only appear after you've already switched systems — too late to go back.

The Process

How Every Conversion Works

01

Data Review

We inspect the source files, database, or export structure to understand what exists and what condition it's in.

02

Inventory

We identify tables, fields, relationships, record counts, duplicates, and critical business objects.

03

Mapping

We map the source data to the destination system or desired output format, including any custom field logic.

04

Transformation

We clean, normalize, restructure, and convert the data using scripts, tools, and custom logic.

05

Delivery

We deliver clean, structured, import-ready data files with a validation report and audit trail.

FAQ

Common Questions

What version of SQL Server do you support?

We support SQL Server 2005 through 2022, including all common edition variants. Older .BAK files may require specific restore compatibility settings — we handle that as part of the extraction.

My .BAK file is 20GB. Can you handle it?

Yes. Our platform uses a streaming architecture with no file size limits. We've processed multi-gigabyte BAK files for insurance, healthcare, and field service businesses.

Do I need to send you credentials to my SQL Server?

No. You send us the .BAK file (via secure upload) and we restore it in our own environment. Your live server credentials are never needed or requested.

Can you extract attachments or documents stored in the database?

In many cases yes, if documents are stored as VARBINARY blobs. We extract them as files and deliver them alongside the data conversion. Let us know during scoping if this is needed.

What if the database has custom tables or schema we don't understand?

We document the full schema as part of the data review step and work with you to identify which tables and fields are relevant. Custom schemas are expected — not an exception.

Ready to move your data?

We offer a free initial data review — no commitment required. Send us a sample file or describe your source system and we'll tell you exactly what's possible.
